Margaret Quinn
Linocut prints in the windows
2nd - 22nd November 2019
Margaret is a tapestry weaver and tapestry conservator trained at Edinburgh College of Art and the Victoria and Albert Museum, based in the Scottish Borders. Her work here in the windows is an exploration of her Orkney roots from 1630 to the present day.
Margaret found a strong family link to Orkney on her father's side and has depicted the various trades her ancestors were involved in: starting in 1630, workers on the land; 1743 masons in Kirkwall; 1850 to 1950 tailors in Kirkwall and Kelso, as well as knitters. 1975 is her own tapestry work and the final image is 1650, depicting a tapestry she has conserved that was woven at the same time as her ancestors planted oats on Shapinsay.
