Stromness is a seaport just inside Scapa Flow on the South West coast of Mainland Orkney. For a small town with only about 2000 inhabitants it had an extremely busy cultural life before Covid-19. There are three art galleries: two independents (including Northlight) and the Pier Arts Centre, which is home to one of the most important collections of British art in the UK. We were used to a rich mix of arts, crafts, music, drama and festivals. Hopefully they will return soon. Orkney is famous for its ancient stone circles, burial chambers and a stone-age village; The Heart of Neolithic Orkney is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
